Mary spends her time walking in the gardens surrounding the large house, until one day she finds a secret doorway. She finds its key, and it unveils the other side of the garden’s well-kept beauty. Mary meets Dickon Sowerby, a boy with many unusual friends.

Mary finds another boy within the walls of the mansion. His name is Colin Craven, and he is Mary’s sick cousin. Mary befriends the garden keeper, Ben Weatherstaff, and invites him into the secret garden. Mary goes on a journey to get Colin better and reveal the secret garden’s mysteries.
