Where Killing Demons is a Thing

City of Bones, by Cassandra Clare, is the first book in The Mortal Instruments series. Published in 2007, the book is about a girl named Clary Fray. Fifteen-year-old Clary first interacts with the mysterious shadowhunters at a Pandemonium Club in New York City. The fact that she’s even able to see them puzzles many from the magical world.

Clary meets Jace, Isabelle, and Alec - shadowhunters with strange tattoo-like markings on their bodies who kill demons. Clary’s mother, Jocelyn Fray, is kidnapped, made unconscious, and leaves her daughter hanging on complete strangers to survive.

With newfound powers, Clary embarks on a journey to get her conscious mother back. She meets a warlock and demons along the way. She also ends up with a task - defeating a shadowhunters’ villain, also a shadowhunter.
