If you are thinking about getting a hamster, then this is the article for you!

  1. If you are a very light sleeper, then a hamster is probably not the right pet for you, because they are very loud on their wheels at night and when they drink out of their water bottles it is very noisy.

  2. It is better to adopt than shop, because then you are supporting cruel animal mills.

  3. You should not buy hamster fluff as it can strangle or cut the circulation on your hamster’s limbs.

  4. Do not get wired or mesh wheels as it can cause a very painful disease called bumblefoot, it is normally caused by tiny cuts and scrapes that get infected by bacteria then lead to bubbles and sores on the foot.

  5. Think, is your home safe for a hamster? Do you have any pets such as cats or dogs that can access the hamster?

  6. Hamsters live two to four years.

  7. Hamsters are great escape artists, so you should be very careful with leaving the cage open because they could jump off the surface the cage was on and get hurt or worse another animal can kill them.

  8. You should not get a store bought cage, as these are way too small for any pets. It is best to get 40 gallons or higher tank, or a bin cage is perfect as well.

  9. When you first get a hamster, it is best to let them settle in their cage for two to three days.

  10. You should not let a kid under eight years old handle a hamster or small pet without supervision.

Those are some the things you should know before you get an adorable, cuddly hamster.
