2018 Winter Olympics

The 2018 Winter Olympics are being held in PyeongChang in South Korea until February 25th. After previous failed bids, the city beat Munich, Germany, and Annecy, France, as the venue for the upcoming games during the International Olympic Committee's 123rd IOC Session in South Africa in 2011. Events include:
Alpine Skiing: Made by Sondre Norheim in 1850, this sport came from Telemark, Norway.
Biathlon: A winter sport that contains both cross country skiing and rifle shooting. The sport has its origins in an exercise for Norwegian soldiers.
Bobsled: Bobsledding has been around for centuries and was used for transportation.
Cross-Country Skiing: Cross-country skiing originated in Scandinavia over 5000 years ago as a technique for traveling cross-country over snow on skis.
Curling: Curling was made in Scotland in the 16th century when players began using stones with handles.
Figure Skating: Jackson Haines made figure skating and was the first skater. He put ballet and dance movements while he was skating.
Freestyle Skiing: Freestyle skiing was demonstrated at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Albertville.
Ice Hockey: Hockey developed from hurley on ice in Nova Scotia.
Luge: Originated in the health-spa town of St Moritz, Switzerland, in the mid-to-late 19th century.
Nordic Combined: Originated from a 19th century Norwegian ski festival where athletes enjoyed a package of cross-country skiing and ski jumping.
Short Track Speed Skating: Speed skating was mainly practiced in the United States and Canada, as opposed to the international form, where skaters skated in pairs.
Skeleton: The skeleton originated in St. Moritz, Switzerland, as a spinoff of the popular British sport called Cresta sledding.
Ski Jumping: The first ski jumping competitions were held in Norway in the 19th century
Snowboard: Snowboarding originated from the United States in the 1960s.
Speed Skating: Speed skating came from Scandinavia, Northern Europe, and the Netherlands.
