BLPA- According to head coach, Wes McKenzie, the boy’s high school basketball team’s “season has been extremely successful. We have battled through a lot of adversity, and shown great resilience all year long. The improvement our guys have made has been extremely impressive, I think we have laid a great foundation for a special program.”
Coach McKenzie has shown his hard work and put all his heart and soul into the team. “Coaching basketball gives me the opportunity to play the game I love and to help young people. I have an opportunity to develop relationships, be a mentor, and teach life lessons through a game that is awesome.” Not only does he always try to persevere through all the challenges that he must go through, he helps the players excel and through life and playing basketball to become better players and students.
“The long term goal is to win league championship, and a state championship as seniors. Obviously, this is no easy task; we will be consistently developing our skills and our basketball strength in the weight room. The key to success in the long term is consistent hard work in the short term.” Coach McKenzie said, showing that he has something special going for this team, and he knows it won’t always be easy, but he has found a way to make the team the best it can be and the best for the team is being in his hand. Coach McKenzie and the basketball team have been working hard all season and will continue to work in the off-season, with weight training, eye-to-hand coordination, and leg coordination work - a non-stop grind for the first BLPA basketball team.
