The Big Question: Is Coloring Actually Worth Your Time?

A common known way to relieve stress and pass time is coloring, but how helpful is it?

Coloring has been known for most since young ages. Whether it’s a Paw Patrol kids coloring book or a “fancy” one from Barnes and Noble, coloring can relieve stress.

The debate between colorers and non-colorers is high considering both of their arguments. Coloring is known to be therapeutic activity and stimulate brain related motor skills. It also generates wellness and quietness, allowing your focus to be consumed into your work. “I like to color because it allows me to be creative without thinking about my own ideas and creating my own. It allows me to focus on blending colors,” says Mrs. Clark, the BLPA art teacher, “When you color you should have fun with it. It’s not about the neatness or staying inside of the lines; I even suggest you go outside of the lines. Challenge yourself to do different.”

Although the argument for coloring is high, there is some logical reason for why others think it’s useless. Some say there is no originality and expression when using a coloring book for art, and unallowing for you to go on your own artistic journey. When coloring a worksheet, you’re basically copying others work and taking it for your own.

Coloring allows much stress to be relieved through the action, and should be a tryable hobby. But now there’s one question: are YOU a artist?
