When you think of Harry Potter characters, generally the same ones come to mind: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and maybe even Dumbledore. Don’t get me wrong, they were great, but often times in the books the smallest characters made the greatest difference. Warning: spoilers if you haven’t finished the series. (Finish it!!!)

  1. Cedric Diggory

This popular Hufflepuff was more than just a handsome face. He managed to get through almost all the tasks in the Triwizard tournament easily, and he stayed greatly humble through it all. He was sadly killed during the last task, but his legacy lived on.

2. Justin Finch-Fletchley

This unlucky character definitely deserves more recognition. He was petrified after facing a monstrous basilisk from the Chamber of secrets and later joined Dumbledore’s Army. Talk about Gryffindor courage in a Hufflepuff!

3. Mrs. Figg

Mrs. Figg was there throughout the books, but always seemed unimportant. Later though, we find that she was actually a squib (born to a magic family but had no magic) that watched over Harry Potter from childhood, and she did an amazing job at it at that.

4. Frank and Alice Longbottom

This beloved, though forgotten, couple played an important role in the original Order of the Phoenix and were parents to the heroic Neville Longbottom. They were as brave as they come, and even when they were tortured to insanity by Voldemort’s followers they stood their ground and refused to give up information.

5. Regulus Black

Last but not least, Regulus Black was Sirius Black’s younger brother and the first person to figure out that Voldemort made Horcruxes. He finally had to sacrifice himself for the greater good and eventually led Harry and his friends to destroying Voldemort once and for all.
