How to Catch a Liar

So mostly everybody you know can tell lies to you, but it’s OK if they lie to you; it gives you a change to practice your detective work. The ways you can tell if someone is lying is fake smiles, laughs, and eye contact.

If you want to catch a liar by “eye contact” the signs are if they look a bit frightened and look away a lot. If you watch for the “fake smiles”, look at their eyes. If they fake smile their eyes are fuller and if they have a real smile most of their eye is not covered fully. The “fake laugh” is mostly the most noticeable. If you hear their real laugh then after a while you will know their “real laugh”. If they fake laugh you will know because you will know your real laugh.

Most people do fake things to make other people feel good. For example, there might be a boy in class who played a joke on you and it wasn’t funny. You might laugh to make the other person happy, but it can be hurtful to them if they know your fake laugh. You have to be careful because they might start telling people you’re fake.

Liars will frequently switch topics because they’re too scared to be caught. Little white lies are ok for things like surprises, so don’t take lies too seriously. Otherwise, surprise parties would be ruined. Someone might lie also because something might be personal and it might make them uncomfortable.
