In Hawaii, on May 6th, 2018, a volcano erupted causing a devastating crack in the earth to form. Since there was a volcanic eruption, lava began spewing out from it along with toxic gas. This destroyed over thirty-five structures and homes, and people had to evacuate. Over 1,700 people in the area have had to evacuate. So far no deaths have occurred in this natural disaster. The island it is erupting on is Kilauea, the youngest and the largest island. The eruption has caused many small earthquakes in the area, which has some scientists believing there may be further fissures. About 387,500 square feet from the fissure, 26 homes have been destroyed and evacuated. Hopefully soon this disastrous event will end soon, allowing people to find new homes.
